67 Tras Street
Singapore
2010
The approach to the restoration and refurbishment of this conservation shophouse is to strip back all unsympathetic additions down to the building’s basic original form, and provide sensitive additions which will enhance and rejuvenate the building’s functionality and architecture.
The new heart of the shophouse is the central light/air well incorporated into the building by a new skylight roof enclosure at the roof eaves. Daylight is exploited to enhance architectural features, rejuvenating commercial space by creating light, open and airy interiors.
The front facade is treated monochromatically to echo the interior colour palette. A rear second storey terrace is constructed as an additional feature and amenity, and incorporates flush traffic-able clear glass skylight and timber decking.
