Red House
Singapore
2007
This is a unique sustainable design for Red House’s seafood restaurant. The design combines traditional and contemporary, local and western, family and corporate, casual and elegant.
Chinese-inspired doors and lanterns are aesthetic functional elements in the restaurant. Screens define spaces & provide flexibility of use to private dining, bar and washrooms. Large sculptural ‘lanterns’ in 3 forms dominate the space with their soft warm glow. The restaurant maintains an openness to the exterior, exploiting it’s aspect to Singapore River.
The restaurant is partially naturally ventilated, assisted by large high volume low speed fans and recycled, recyclable or renewable building materials are used throughout. These include bamboo floor, plantation timber, off-form concrete bar counters, recyclable lamp shades, and recycled glass aggregate off-form concrete wash basin.
