Botanic Interpretive Centre
Singapore
2016
Two heritage colonial bungalows are converted into into a Natural History Art Gallery and Forest Conservation Interpretive Centre with supporting amenities. The proposal aims to create a holistic experience through the integration of heritage, art, botany, nature, landscape, education, recreation and dining.
The undulating hilly site surrounded by natural heritage is respected by concealing the Interpretive Centre under the sloping lawn between the bungalows. This frees the centre from limited existing areas; and for better suited gallery, restaurant, cafe and administrative uses to be accommodated in the bungalows.
Nature trails with contemplative pavilions and gardens enhance visitor sensory experience. The interpretive centre curves around an external play area featuring creative play sculptures.
