Red Cross House
Singapore
2016
The Singapore Red Cross occupies a small 3-storey building which became spatially inadequate for their needs.
The design maximises the site potential of the unbuilt land, which includes leasable commercial office space.
MRT tunnels constrain foundation placement, resulting in our proposal of maximised spans and cantilevered floors over the existing building to maximise potential floor area. A braced facade frame integrated with a stiff lift/service core at one end forms a structurally expressive building.
The 3-storey atrium created between the new and old building forms an outdoor courtyard that is shaded by the new taller inclined building form. Bridges link both buildings and the roof terrace created atop the existing building together.
