Expo Transmission Tower
Singapore
2012
The construction of the new Expo Interchange Station necessitated the demolition of an affected existing transmission and radio tower. A new replacement tower was commissioned and built prior to the demolition.
Rather than reproduce the former common utilitarian triangular pyramid form, an expressive, sculptural and streamline cable-stayed structure was created. Consisting of a three-dimensional truss pinned at the base, stabilised by cables at the lower third of the tower, an integrated central cat ladder with triangular platforms provides access to the various antennae affixed to the structure.
