33 Tras Street
Singapore
2011
This very unusual 3-bay set of shophouses set in the Tanjong Pagar conservation area has no intermediate cross-walls, giving it the spacious proportions of a traditional warehouse with expressed triple pitched roofs incorporating valley gutters and jack roofs. The original building condition was in disrepair, including damaged roofs and front facade.
The front facade is remodelled to original heritage features, using a bold colour palette to accentuate timber and stucco features. A new rear terrace created at the second storey is an additional feature offering improved user amenity.
The roof profile is used to reflect daylight into the 2nd floor open plan commercial space, eliminating reliance on artificial lighting during the day. The central stair is reconfigured to one side to maximise efficient usable space for both floors.
